Just watched Silver Linings Playbook and I have to say it is a strange movie plotwise, so absurd it became funny. Everyone is a bit of an asshole except for Pat's mom who was honestly just trying her best, I really have a lot of sympathy for her. But it started out as this somber and serious depiction of a man who went through a frankly pretty traumatizing event and the mental health issues that come with that. It then pretty quickly pivots tones into a more "we're both quirky, how romantic". I just felt the tonal shift was a bit strange. It also delved into some tropes that were a little odd. I think if it took a more serious direction, it might've worked out better. Regardless, I thought the acting was really great honestly. Jennifer Lawrence is always going to do a bang up job and Bradley Cooper's performance was great. I really love the visuals and the audio design of this movie. A few standout moments were the shots and camera movements used for the parlay argument, the light filtering into the dance studio during their first day of practice and the ending dance number. Overall: 6.2/10
